William L. Silvia, Jr.
William L. Silvia, Jr. is the senior adviser to the board and to the president/chief executive officer of Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation. Silvia is the president and chief executive officer of the Pennington Medical Foundation and has more than 40 years of professional experience. He also serves as a special advisor to the executive director of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
Silvia is the former corporate secretary of the Louisiana State University Foundation and is the immediate past treasurer of the LSU Research and Technology Foundation. In addition, he is vice president emeritus of the Louisiana State University System.
Prior to his involvement at Pennington Biomedical, Silvia was the senior vice president of LSU. In addition, he was the associate commissioner of higher education for the Louisiana Board of Regents. The Board of Regents coordinates all public higher education institutions for the state and authorizes degree programs designed to fulfill workforce needs.
Silvia has a masters of public administration from LSU and is a member of several university honor societies. In 2003, Silvia was named LSU’s Distinguished MPA Alumnus of the Year.
In addition to professional activities, Silvia has been actively involved in community organizations serving on numerous boards and committees, including the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and the Boys and Girls Club. Silvia is a past senior warden of St. James Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, where he currently serves as parish treasurer.
